About the book
Along the tracks of Cobb and Co. — Jimmy the Whip | A story grounded in real Australian history
Jimmy the Whip is a fast-paced, family-friendly adventure set during the Australian gold rush and the legendary era of Cobb and Co. The story follows gold seekers, travellers, and the Royal Mail as they navigate the dusty tracks, flooding rivers, and other challenges, including bail-ups by bushrangers—blending fictional characters with real historical figures, including Mary Jinks and Cabbage Tree Ned (Edward Devine).
The book is rich enough to support deeper learning across a range of year levels and abilities, engaging enough to draw in reluctant readers, and firmly grounded in the history that shaped modern Australia.
An underlying message of the book is that Grit + Graft = Resilience and Success—a theme that should resonate strongly with young readers and encourage perseverance.
